projectcosplay:

These were made with mirror vinyl (bought from a Chinese seller) over craft foam held together with various glues.

This is the process / tutorial used.

Use the following chart when adhering materials so they stick well:

  • Vinyl front to vinyl front: Super Glue / Krazy Glue
  • Foam to vinyl front: Coat the foam in a very thin layer of hot glue, let it dry, then use Super Glue / Krazy Glue
  • Foam to vinyl backing: Contact Cement / Contact Spray
  • Foam to foam: Hot Glue (or your favorite method…this is my preferred)

Others have used contact cement to hold the foam to the vinyl backing but because contact cement smells like death to me, I prefer the contact spray adhesive instead.

Really love using this method as it’s fast, easy, and light. Luckily, my armor did not have any complex curves because if it did, I would have used Worbla instead.

ofthreadandmind:

I’m arranging my sketches with construction notes and details so I can file them away in a sort of pseudo tech pack for costumes I do. I got the green light from teachers and industry-working friends that it was a good idea and advice on how to arrange it. :> When the costumes are finished I’ll photograph a model wearing it to display in order to keep a more professional image. Some other pages I’ll add in after are measurements/sewing details, fabric samples/sourcing, and WIPS/photographs!

All my costumes are gonna have like, 15~20 pages lmao my poor binder.

I’m posting these now because I hope they reach out and help other cosplayers who might need ideas of closures/materials/details, ect. I’m pretty detailed-oriented (lol) so while I’m focused only on my own costumes I think it’ll be a valuable resource that I want to share.

Happy cosplaying! <3

Do not remove sources. I am the designer who illustrates and theorizes these concepts, so whether it’s fashion or cosplay, these illustrations should still be credited.

nff-themes:

Hey guys! This mini tutorial concerns transparent images and how to install them. Follow the instructions below and pay attention to my notes for the best results:

CSS:

  • Place the following code beneath <style type=”text/css”>

.transparent {

 right: 15px; /* increase value to move image left/decrease value to move image right */

bottom: 0px; /* increase value to move image up/decrease value to move image down */

width: 320px; /* increase value to make image larger/decrease value to make image smaller */

height: auto;

position: fixed;

z-index: 99999;

}

.transparent img {

width: 100%;

}

note: If you want the image to be on the left side of your page, change ”right” to “left”. If you want the image to be at the top of the page rather than the bottom, then replace “bottom” with “top”. I’ve also written out instructions within the code explaining how to adjust your image’s size and margins.

HTML:

  • Place the following code directly beneath <body>
<div class=”transparent”><img src=”
REPLACE-THIS-TEXT-WITH-IMAGE-URL“></div>

note: Make sure that you do not remove the quotations that surround your image url. If an element within your theme shares the div/tag name “transparent”, this tutorial will not work. An easy solution for this is to rename the element. For example, simply add a “1” to the end: “transparent1”, and you should be fine.

bonus: If you want this image to be a link, put this under <body> instead of the previous HTML code:

<a href=”LINK URL”><div class=“transparent”><img src=“REPLACE-THIS-TEXT-WITH-IMAGE-URL”></div</a>

note: if you want to reveal a title for when you hover over it, place this directly after “LINK URL” :

title=”THIS IS THE TITLE OF THE LINK

Thank you for reading and message me if you run into any problems. Source of the image in the tutorial header: x . Have an awesome day!

The “Flash on dolls”-guide.

Having a cheap camera is no excuse for making bad pictures. You CAN make good pictures with a simple point and click camera too, you don’t need a expensive DSLR.

So you want to make a quick picture of your doll(s) in the evening/nighttime and in your room? Don’t turn the flash off. The picture will get grainy and yellowish (and probably shaky) - but don’t just shot and click.

Hold a mirror in front of the flash - and make sure that its close enough, otherwise you’ll get one really light area and lots of dark on your picture.

The mirror will redirect the flashlight and let it bounce of your room walls - which leads to softer light that direct lightning. And voila, better picture!
You may need to play a bit around with angles of the mirror - different angles of course lead to different lightning. And of course.. .the closer you are to the wall, the lighter the redirected light. I don’t have experience with colored wall or rooms with little to no free wall, you need to test that ;)

Tag me along if anyone tests it :D I hope the guide is useful.

arcanime:

hey, if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make a gif but doing it traditionally in photoshop is too hard, you should look at this.

gifcam is an app designed to make making gifs easy. all you have to do to record a gif is size the window and hit record. it has a built in editor and it saves with low filesizes and many options.

the best thing about the whole deal is that its completely free. yeah. thats right. you wont pay for anything and you’ll never have to

you can download gifcam here, and if you want, you could reblog to spread the word about this awesome software
