this is a super great write up! i knew marx had some changes to him, especially when people pointed out that supports and game xander were different. it didn’t sound right to me at all but i haven’t had the chance to look too deeply in him. glad to know i wasn’t just imagining things.

i just wanted to add for the marx/elfie bit - their a support does have a line that does kind of show an interesting difference between xander and marx. it’s mostly due to the change in elfie / effie but i thought it would be interesting to point out.

Marx: Still, imagine it. I’ve gone mad, and I’m about to kill Elise… So, are you just going to watch silently?!
Elfie: ……..Uuu….
Marx: ?!?
Elfie: Uuuu…I can’t imagine it at all…
Marx: H-Hey, I understand. Don’t cry. You’re truly very honest and pure. Well, let’s end training there. Let’s go and eat. You can eat as much as you like in the castle.

Xander: That’s enough, Effie. You must now force yourself to imagine the impossible. Imagine I have lost all sense of self and am determined to kill Elise. Are you just going to stand there and watch?
Effie: I think I’m going to be sick just thinking about it…
Xander: Now, now. You really do take things quite seriously, don’t you? Perhaps I have put you in a tough situation. For that, I apologize. Let’s call it a day, shall we? It’s time for supper, anyway. A hearty meal would do you good. In fact, I order you to eat to your heart’s content.

marx’s is kind of awkward with comforting a crying elfie, which kind of ties in with him not being as soft as xander and just sort of being introverted. it makes me wonder if, had they kept elfie’s personality and written her with xander, they would have written xander to not be as awkward as marx comforting elfie, to sort of cement that “reliable big bro” status the localization tried to give him.
